Luke Stewart - Selfless Abandon

LUKE STEWART - SELFLESS ABANDON

Selfless abandon is a collaboration between Miriam Parker and Luke Stewart, based on an audiovisual performative practice, and aims to deconstruct the practice of creating through the exploration of polarities. We see our collaboration as an extension of the African American traditions of improvisation and culture of the revolutionary mind, as we both work extensively within the improvisation avant-garde genre. Our work finds a meeting place among the ritual and expression of dance, sound, and image; and how the play of these sense perceptions works together in a transformative process.

Luke uses the double bass as his medium, casting out nets of dynamic spaces through his physical movements as they interact with the speakers - resonating with harmonic feedback. Miriam plays with the dynamics of the soundscape using the visuals, movement, and gesture as a language of her archetypes, tapping into the shifting of frequency and tone that Luke creates to form new lineage for the performance. We are interested in Freedom.
